Background
I grew up with what feels like the typical mantra of a daughter raised with Chinese immigrant parents who fought their way to America: get good grades in school so I can get into a good college, get good grades in college so I can get a good job. For 22 years of my life I followed that script, did my best, panicked and stressed during exams, played extracurricular sports, and then achieved it: I got a job at Google as a Product Manager.
Soon out of college I fell into a deep sense of meaningless, loneliness, and existential dread. I had done the things I was raised to do and climbing the corporate ladder was confusing and something I struggled to adjust to. At the time I was also playing ultimate frisbee at a national level, and I felt like I didn’t know what it meant to truly be happy. I thought - if I can just be the best ultimate frisbee player in the world, maybe then I’ll be happy.
This is when I started learning more about REN XUE. I was told these practices could help me perform better on the field, because competition was really about staying calm under pressure and calm under a survival environment and improving performance meant clearing the thought patterns in the way of your intention. So I threw myself in wholeheartedly.
It’s been 8 years since then and my life has transformed significantly. I learned to survive Google and the corporate environment and my performance reviews went from Meets Expectations (the second to lowest) to Strongly Exceeding. I learned how to improve my relationships in my life and how connected that skill is to every goal I had - operating in a sports team, a work team, or a romantic partnership.
Since then I’ve left Google and am now working as Executive Director to REN XUE Washington with the goal of making these practices and learnings more accessible to everyone, in particular those who have a need for its wisdom but in modern, competitive environments.
I offer a limited number of individual sessions specializing in surviving and thriving in a corporate environment or for those who work in organizations and are looking for a way to integrate balance, clarity, and wellbeing into their jobs.
